Dear Ann,
By now you should have received my letters from France. I got your letter of June 6th. Today the air mail dated June 12. I probably would have got it sooner, But the last week or so we have been jumping here and there on the peninsula had a bit of trouble locating the mail.
Everything is running about So. So. We was rather lucky yesterday the fourth. We was held in reserve. Altho I worked nearly all day. I did my washing in a two gal pail then I changed oil in my big job. So that keep me busy nearly all day. But I enjoy it lot better than being on the front. That was one fourth the fire crackers was going off for keeps. I imagine you went some place in the ending. Probably was too busy to go in the day.
We have been eating “ten in one rations” They aren’t too bad but run on the same order. So today we pushed by a farm house for some time. By accident we got in the garden. Got some onions, early potatoes about big as eggs and few radishes. we got a nice bunch of onions so now we can season our food.
“Hot Dog” wait till our next meal. ha. Here is a good one we saw a chicken sitting on a nest wo we watched till she layed the egg. Now I guess five of us will have to share it for breakfast. Ha. Ha.
Boy! O. Boy. You should see the big barrels of Cider these people have. Probably four or five hundred gal to a barrel. We also got a bottle of that. Its not bad. Most of the Yanks are drinking Cidar now days. Ha. About all you see is apple orchards that is the reason they make so much Cider. Gosh but I wish the apples were ripe I sure could go for some fruit.
Did I tell you that here in France they drive on the same side of the road as we do, so that helps some what, Also I believe the roads are a little better than they are in England a little wider, have a burn, then the Hedge, Where in England the Hedge was right next to the concrete or what ever type road it was.
Yes, I thought Ben was sorta important. What does he get for being on the Jury?
Don’t know if I will ever get time to write to this Mercella, I would like to but it keeps me busy answering to my regular customers. Ha. Guess I will have to look for some new stuff. Ha seems like all my old gals are getting married. You kinda talk it up for me. Ha. Ha.
That was a nice letter Johnnie Stuart had in the paper. he had it slapped together pretty neat.
The other day we traveled over some of the roads that we come in on, things are beginning to take shape a little where it has quieted down the people are moving back trying to fix up their broken down homes. Saw a few stores open selling meat bread etc. the bread is big dark loaves. Looks like it might be rather hard. Don’t know if it is rye or whole wheat, probably “Wheat”.
I am glad that Burton likes my car. I did take darn good care of it. I am glad they appreciate it.
Well this is all I know. I hope the censor doesn’t think its too much. I guess he should let it go though.
Good bye from your Bro Felix.
