But five Franc is only ten cents

July 20, 1944

Dear Ann,

I will start this letter to-night. It is eight o’clock and I am tired as heck didn’t get much sleep the last two nights So I am about to hit the hay. It is raining sorta light kinda sleepy weather. So I should catch up on a little shut eye. I always like to get all the sleep I can because one never knows when he will have to stay up several sites in a row.

Well! how is everything back home? Our latest rumor is that we will be eating Christmas dinner at home. Boy! We sure are hoping that comes true. 

Yesterday I got a letter from Garnet she wrote it the fourth. She got a letter from me from France. So far I did not hear from you since I am in France. What I mean is answering on the letters I wrote from here.

Oh you know that in dollars I owe you. Well I will send you half of it in French money. Then some day I will send you the rest. I bet I could believe that is five dollars. But five Franc is only ten cents. Maybe you will like it for a souvenir even if it is only ten cents all of the small change is in paper we don’t have a thing to spend money on over here. So maybe now I will save some. I put some in the army saving and some I send to Ben to put in the bank for me.

Sat July 22nd. Well I will try and finish this to nite run out of news the other right. so I went to bed and yesterday and last nite I was at the Ordnance.

Well this is Sat night I just had to ask what day it was. Gosh but one is like another Sat and Sun don’t count over here. 

Today I got a letter from Helen, Cora and Cec. All were V-mail. Helen said she was sick. I hope she is better by now. I still didn’t get a letter from you I think you was the first one I wrote to from France. But I guess I won’t get all of the letters. By the way Helen’s letter sounded she wrote me one and I never got it. any how she said she mentioned she wrote about a party they had for George. But I read it in the Monroe paper. “So it Goes”

(Cut my hair off short) So. Ben +Helen are going to have another upright. Boy! O Boy! they certainly are going to town. Guess they will have to built on another room. Ha. Ha. 

Oh yes!  if you see Ben or Helen before I wrote or maybe I might even for get to mention it to them. About that money I send home. it was after I send the letter and pictures tell them not to worry about it. It will get there eventually. Money usually takes a long time.

Well guess this is about it for this time.
